The Elephant Rope
As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.
حبل الفيل
مر أحد الرجال بفيل مُقيدًا بحبل صغير في قدميه الأماميتين بدون أي قيود أخرى أو قفص فأدرك أن الفيل غير قادر على التحرر من قيده لكنه لم يعرف السبب، فسأل المدرب المسؤول عن الفيل، فأجابه قائلًا: أن الأفيال تُربط بنفس الحبل وهي صغيرة جدًا في العمر، وفي هذا العمر يُشكل الحبل الصغير قيدًا بالنسبة لهم لذا تخفق محاولاتهم المتكررة في التحرر منه إلى أن يتملكهم اليأس ويعتقدون بعدم قدرتهم على التحرر بالرغم من تقدمهم في العمر وزيادة قوتهم، ولذلك فإن الفيل مأسورًا بسبب اعتقاده وليس بسبب قوة القيد.
The Butterfly
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.
Until it suddenly stopped making any progress and looked like it was stuck.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man didn’t think anything of it and sat there waiting for the wings to enlarge to support the butterfly. But that didn’t happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling around with tiny wings and a swollen body.
Despite the kind heart of the man, he didn’t understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle needed by the butterfly to get itself through the small opening; were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings. To prepare itself for flying once it was out of the cocoon.
الفراشة
